When a Low Moment Turns into Motivation

One year ago I sent my first query off to a dream agent, and although her response was prompt, kind and encouraging, the answer was no.

Since then, I have queried over twenty agents and am still yet to obtain representation for my women’s fiction manuscript about motherhood.

There’s More to Life Than Sex and Mansions explores the difficulties one woman faces in early marriage and the consequences motherhood has on her career.

To keep busy while my queries were going in and out, I joined the wonderful bookstagram community on Instagram and have thoroughly enjoyed celebrating all things books. My PeachesAndCreamPages account has allowed me to connect with fellow booklovers, publishers and authors.

But in a low moment last week, I posted about rejection and instead of the usual likes and comments, the kindest author reached out.

Di Walker, middle grade author of two books, set up a Zoom call so we could chat about writing. Essentially, she took time out of her day to give me a free mentoring session. And her message was clear. Don’t give up!

So from thinking there was an issue with my query/manuscript, I became motivated to keep going. Di encouraged me to launch my website, the one I’ve been putting off but was already paying for, and start looking at which Australian publishers I should query directly.

Which brings me to this moment.

I hope you enjoyed my first official blog post and will subscribe to my website so I can share my journey with you. I don’t know what the future holds but I can promise you that I won’t give up on my writing dreams.
