When An Agent Calls

Is 2022 the year?

I don’t know.

But when a full request turned into an agent call in the first week of January, I could almost taste success.

Then I realised this agent was not offering representation rather encouragement and revision suggestions.

Still positive!

After talking on the phone for forty minutes, I realised how important it is to have an agent/author connection, how wonderful it is to chat with someone who gets what you’re about and is interested in your premise, and the power of revision suggestions that resonate.

So as soon as our call ended, I decided it was time to print out my manuscript [apologies trees]. Reading my work on paper was a whole new experience.

Editing this way made it easy to identify the scenes that are not driving the plot, resulting in lots of strikethroughs. And I’ve got to admit, I enjoyed marking up my pages.

Then it was time to rethink my outline and wonder if this manuscript deserves saving, whether I can pull off an edit worthy of representation, and hope that I can produce an enjoyable read.

Now that I know what needs changing, it’s time to do the work.

Because if I stick to my premise, I just might have something that’s marketable.

Wish me luck.
